About the Artist I began to concentrate on portraiture when a very close friend asked me to paint a watercolor portrait of his immediate family for his father's birthday. The portrait was presented at a birthday dinner, and when I saw how touched his father was by it, I was overwhelmed with emotion myself, and realized that portraiture reaches people through generations and carries with it the memories of lifetimes. I discovered my interest in art at an early age, practicing Chinese watercolor techniques I learned from television shows when I was only six, and, after begging my parents for clay, trying my hand at sculpture at the age of 9. I was graduated from Catawba College (Salisbury, North Carolina) with a B.A., but my real passion came out when I studied drawing and painting at the Massachusetts College of Art, after which the search to learn painting techniques led me to study at the Montserrat College of Art (Beverly, Massachusetts), Georgia State University and The Atlanta College of Art. In my desire to become a better painter I have sought out the best teachers I could find, and over the years I have taken classes with watercolorists Mary Field and Joseph Fettingis, Atlanta artists Joseph Perrin and Waylon Moore, and with painters Luana |
