DRAWINGS AND PAINTINGS I work in charcoal, graphite, watercolors, and oils. Fees are dependent on the size of the drawing or painting, the number of people in the painting, whether it is a head and shoulders, three-quarter, or full view, and the complexity of the background. Minimum size for a head and shoulders is 11" x 14". Contact me to discuss your portrait. Fees do not include travel and lodging expenses (if any), framing, shipping, or sales tax. A deposit of 30% is required for all commissions; after approval of the initial composition and the painting has been started the deposit is nonrefundable. General Procedures--For a portrait, at our initial meeting we will discuss the clothing, size, poses, and composition. At the same time a commission agreement is signed and a 30% deposit is due. I prefer to take my own reference photographs when possible and will be prepared to do so during our initial meeting, although I am open to using your reference photographs. If using your photographs I will need at minimum an 8 x 10 (or larger) print or a very high resolution jpg or raw image, and additional smaller photographs of the subject. For an oil painting, I would also like to do a quick charcoal study and/or color study of the subject, either at that meeting or at a later date. If the painting is complex I will prepare a rough compositional drawing for your approval; once that is approved the painting is begun. After approval of the composition, completion of an oil painting may take a minimum of three to six months; charcoals, pastels and watercolors require less time., but completion dates of all works are dependent on my current deadlines. When the painting is completed and approved the remainder of the fee is due. |
